A special meeting was held March 29th to address the overcharge on our dues. It was agreed by all to change the bi-laws to reflect what the local is taking and come up with a proper amount. At $5.46 a pay period per member, we have been able to conduct operations, put training on at every general meeting, pay for lost wages, send stewards to annual training and conventions, and cover the steep travel expenses caused by our local being spread out by three states and a peninsula.
When pay reform is enacted, we will no longer have to reimburse lost wages. With the website up, we will not have to pay for mailings which cost roughly $500 each (except for elections $1,000). With more stewards trained, we will not have to pay for stewards traveling hundreds of miles to represent a member. We believe we can take a substantial cut to our dues and still operate efficiently. The following dues structure changes where recomended to us by the NBPC and will be voted on at the next general meeting in Havre, MT on July 23, 2013.
Sec. 22. The dues shall be assessed bi-weekly at the amount of $2.50 plus the amount needed to cover the members portion of the local’s monthly per capita tax. The local’s monthly per capita tax will be equally divided by all members. The per capita tax will include monies paid to AFGE, National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), and Police Officer Research Association of California/Legal Defense Fund (PORAC/LDF). The local’s dues shall be increased automatically by the amount, if any, by which the AFGE National Convention, NBPC, or PORAC/LDF increases any portion of the per capita tax. Dues for retired members shall be two dollars ($2.00) per month. See standard local constitution, Article IV, Section 1 and Article XI, Section 3.
Sec. 22. The dues, per pay period, shall be $26.5o.
