New Study on the Detriments of Shift Work

For those of us that work shift work, it doesn’t take a scientist to tell us it is unhealthy. This new study focuses on brain function. Our message as a Union has always been the same:

1. Do NOT rotate shifts unless you absolutely have to!

There are still stations out there that do this and it is maddening to us.

2. Compensate those who do make this sacrifice with better pay!

They took away double Sunday pay for budget reasons. This was not a good idea. When agents commit to working these shifts long term, adjusting to the life style and sleep habits help reduce adverse health affects. The easiest way to get a group of individuals to stay on an overnight shift for an extended period of time is more pay.
